Do We really Need To Go To The Mikveh before Going Up?

Some say that we should go to the mikveh l'chatchila, but that a good shower will suffice for removing any tumah we are concerned with.

Anyone have a dissenting opinion as to why 9 kavim of water wouldn't suffice?
